========== NOSview [137]
README.1ST
==========
------------
INTRODUCTION
------------
NOSview is an on-line documentation package for the KA9Q Network
Operating System (NOS). This README file describes how to
install the package.
--------------------
NOSVIEW INSTALLATION
--------------------
1. NOSview is supplied in .ZIP format, in a file whose name is
of the form "NOSVWnnn.ZIP", where "nnn" is the current release
number (shown in square brackets in the top right hand corner of
this page).
For example, the first release of NOSview was supplied in file
"NOSVW137.ZIP".
The files in this package are installed in two separate
directories:
a. the NOSVIEW directory holds the on-line documentation files.
b. the NOSFILES directory holds templates for NOS use.
2. Create a new DOS directory for NOSview. It is recommended
that you locate NOSview under the NOS "public" directory, so that
your users may access NOSview files on-line if they wish.
For example, if your NOS public directory is C:\NOS\PUBLIC, make
the directory for NOSview as follows:
CD C:\NOS\PUBLIC
MKDIR NOSVIEW
3. Unzip the NOSview file:
CD C:\NOS\PUBLIC\NOSVIEW
PKUNZIP A:NOSVW137.ZIP
(assuming the ZIP file is on drive A:)
4. Check that all the NOSview files listed in "!RELEASE.nnn" are
present:
DIR/W (list the files actually present)
MORE !RELEASE.137 (list the files which should be present)
5. The list of files should include another ZIP file:
"NOSFILES.ZIP". Make a new directory for this ZIP file, then
unzip the file into the new directory. Afterwards remove the ZIP
file. For example:
MKDIR NOSFILES
CD NOSFILES
PKUNZIP ..\NOSFILES.ZIP
DEL ..\NOSFILES.ZIP
6. Check that all the NOSfiles listed in "!RELEASE.nnn" are
present:
DIR/W (list the files actually present)
MORE !RELEASE.137 (list the NOSfiles which should be
present)
The file "!!README.3RD" in the NOSfiles directory contains
installation instructions for setting up NOS.
7. For UK users only: NOSfiles contains yet another ZIP file
(DOMAINUK.ZIP), which contains a complete set of DOMAIN.TXT files
for the UK (one file for each region). Unzip this file into a
separate directory if required.
8. Install the Clockwork View TSR, by inserting the "VIEW"
command (with full pathname) into AUTOEXEC.BAT; e.g.
C:\NOS\PUBLIC\NOSVIEW\VIEW
Now reboot. As the system boots up, you should see the message:
....................................................
: :
: Loading VIEW - Clockwork's Resident File Viewer. :
: To activate press:- RShift and SPC :
:..................................................:
9. Test the operation of VIEW by pressing the right shift key
and the space bar simultaneously. The Clockwork View
introduction screen should appear. Use the PgDn and PgUp keys to
examine the help menus.
Then test the file viewer, by pressing F3. The prompt
"Load file: *.*"
should then appear. Press Return. This should pop up a list of
files in the current directory. Move the arrow keys up or down
to select a particular file, then press Return again. The
selected file should now appear.
Use the "G" and/or "H" key to change the display format if
necessary. Finally press Escape to exit from VIEW.
NOSview is now ready for use. File "!!README.2ND" continues the
story.
